Questions
What people ask before they join, answered in a few lines.
Pip: I had so many questions. Tavi answered all of them!
The basics
What is Eggox?
Eggox is a game where everything is built by players. You get a space of your own, make things out of little cubes in the Studio, and meet other players in one big shared world. It runs in your browser.
Is it free?
Yes. Joining, walking around, chatting, making things in the Studio, putting them down and building experiences all cost nothing. There's no money in Eggox at all: no coins, no wallet, no prices.
The age check is free too. If a month's photo ID checks ever run out, they open again on the first of the next month. With an EU age app, like AltID in Denmark, you can check any day.
Who can play?
Anyone can sign up and build in spaces of their own. Meeting other players (chat, messages, friends and the shared world) is for players 18 and over: you check your age once in the game, and it opens up. We never ask for your date of birth.
While we're in beta, you also need an invite code to sign up.
How do I get an invite?
Eggox is invite-only while it's in beta, and for now the invites come from the Eggox team. Got a code? Join the beta and type it in.
What do I need to play?
A web browser, on a computer, a tablet or a phone. There's nothing to download. If you like, add Eggox to your home screen and it opens like an app.
What does "in beta" mean?
Eggox works, and people play it, but it's new and we're still building it. Expect things to change and a few rough edges while we do.
Where do players hang out outside the game?
On the Eggox Discord. Meet other players, show what you made, ask for help, and tell us what's broken or what you'd like next. We're there too. Join the Eggox Discord.
How do I reach you?
Chat with us and other players on Discord. For anything else, like trouble with your account, a question about your data, or press, write to hello@eggox.net. It goes straight to the team.
Eggox is made by Eggvelop ApS, a company registered in Denmark, CVR 44287463.
Playing
Where do I start?
In your home space: 48 by 48 tiles, private until you open its gate. Walk around, move things about, and look through the Market. To make something of your own, take a blueprint there (it's free) and open it in the Studio. Stay as long as you like. How to play walks you through your first day.
How do I meet other players?
Check your age once, then open GO SOMEWHERE and pick the spawn quay. That's where everyone arrives. Type to chat, and your words pop up over your head.
Can I play with friends?
Yes, once you've both checked your age. Add each other as friends, send messages, and meet at the quay or at a place one of you built. Your space stays private until you open its gate, and then friends can visit you there.
Can I own land?
Yes. Take a land claim flag from the Market (it's free) and put it down anywhere outside the arrival town. The 11 by 11 square around it is yours to build on, with room for up to 10,000 things. It's one plot each, and there's no rent. More plots, and bigger ones, are coming later.
How big is the world?
About 2,000 tiles wide and 100 million tiles long, starting at the quay. There's no map: GO SOMEWHERE lists the places people have made, and your feet find the rest. More about the world.
Making things
What can I make?
Anything you can build out of little cubes. In the Studio you stack them, paint them and draw frames to make them move. Make furniture and decorations, clothes and hats, or a whole character to play as.
Do I need to know how to code?
Not to build. Making things in the Studio is all clicking and painting. Experiences are the one place with code: you write their rules as short Lua scripts.
What is an experience?
A place a player built and gave rules to: a race, a puzzle, an arena, a quest. You step through its door and you're in. How experiences work.
Can I make my own game?
Yes, that's what an experience is. Take an Experience from the Market (free, its rooms included), build its rooms, and write what happens in the script editor. Try it in private, then publish it for everyone (publishing needs the age check).
Does what I make stay mine?
Yes. Everything you make carries your name. And a design belongs to one blueprint: if somebody tries to save a frame that's exactly the same as one of yours, the Studio won't let them.
Your things
How many of a thing can I put down?
As many as you like. Your bag holds each thing once: drag it into the world and it stays in your bag, so you can put it down again, and again. Pick one up and only that one leaves the world. Your bag.
Can I give or sell things to other players?
No. What's in your bag is yours to keep: wear it, place it, show it off. Nothing changes hands between players: no trades, no gifts, no selling. Sharing your designs with other players is coming later.
Can I trade for real money?
No. Eggox has no money, and nothing can change hands between players. Anyone offering to buy or sell things or accounts for real cash is trying to trick you, and selling for real money breaks the Eggox Way.
Safety and your account
Why do I need to be 18 to meet people?
So everyone you meet is a checked adult. Until you check your age you play on your own, in your own spaces. Chat, messages, friends and the shared world open after the age check, and nobody can talk to you until they've passed it too.
What does the age check keep?
One thing: 18 or not. Our partner, Didit, looks at your ID and a quick selfie and tells us just that. Not your face, not your document, not the name on it.
With an EU age app, we learn even less. See the next question.
Can I check my age anonymously?
Yes, if your country has an official EU age app. Your phone tells us you're 18 or over, signed by your government, and nothing else: no name, no birth date, no photo. We never learn who you are.
Denmark is first, with AltID. Every EU country is rolling out its own, expected by the end of 2026, and each one works here as it arrives. Until yours does, you can check with a photo ID through Didit.
What if someone is being awful?
Walk away. Your space lets in only the people its gate allows, and only your friends can message you. The Eggox Way says what isn't okay here, and breaking it can cost an account its place.
I forgot my password.
Use Forgot your password? and we'll email you a link to set a new one.
Still wondering?
The guides go into every part of the game, and on Discord you can ask us and other players anything.
