The world

It starts at a quay by the water and runs on for a very long way. Every place along it is somebody's.

Pip: I walked north for an hour. Still going!

The map

A diagram of the Eggox world from above: a long rectangle, about 2,000 tiles across on the x axis and about 100 million tiles north on the y axis. The spawn quay is a dot in the middle of the south end, and Main Street runs from it straight north to the far end. Spawn quay Main Street x About 2,000 tiles, west to east y About 100 million tiles north
  • The spawn quay

Everyone arrives here, at the south end, by the water. The town around it is open to everyone, and nobody can claim it.

  • Main Street

Runs north out of the town square, through the whole world. Nobody can build on it, so there's always a way through.

  • The world

About 2,000 tiles from west to east, and about 100 million to the north. Claim a plot anywhere outside the town and off the road. Past the edges there's nothing.

Not to scale: the real world is about 50,000 times longer than it is wide.

The arrival town: townhouses along the street, the tree-lined promenade, the stone stairs and the wooden jetty over dark water, a few players about.

The spawn quay

Everyone arrives here: townhouses, cafés, bridges and jetties by the water, all built from the same little cubes you can make things from yourself.

The town around the quay stays open to everyone, so a new player always lands somewhere friendly. There's no map. GO SOMEWHERE lists the places people have made, and your feet find the rest.

What's whose

The open land is everyone's

Walk anywhere that isn't claimed. You walk right through other players, so nobody can block the way.

A plot is yours

Put down a land claim flag and the 11 by 11 square around it is yours. Anyone can walk across and look. Only you can build there.

Your space is yours

Everyone also has a home space of their own. It's private until you open its gate, and it stays exactly how you left it.

Claiming land

  • One flag, one plot. A land claim flag is free at the Market, and it stays in your bag when you plant it. A plot itself can't be sold or traded.
  • One each. Room for 10,000 things, and nobody can hog the map. More plots, and bigger ones, are coming later.
  • First come, first served. Plots can't overlap.
  • Outside the arrival town. The town around the quay stays open to everyone.
  • No rent. Pick the flag back up and the land is open again. Everything that stood on it is still in your bag.

How to claim a plot

A claimed plot beside Main Street with a little log cabin, a birch and a fir, flower planters, a picnic table, a gingham blanket and a split-rail fence, its claim flag in the middle and Pip waving on the lawn.

Pip: Can I sell the hat I made?

Tavi: No money here, and nothing changes hands. It's yours to keep.

Your things

Everything you make, and everything you take from the Market, is in your bag once. Put it down as often as you like: on your plot, in your spaces, in your experiences. Building here costs nothing.

There's no money in Eggox, and nothing changes hands between players: no trades, no gifts, no selling. Nobody can talk you out of what's yours.
